FHE--Simple (Quiet) Stacking Game Kids (and Parents) Can Love

We played Animal upon Animal, a simple stacking game game, for our Family Home Evening activity this week.  We modify the rules to shorten or lengthen the duration of the game and we ignore the part on the front about the three-year-old age minimum.
This game has so many appeals (simplicity, age adaptability), but I confess it appeals to me most because it is quieter than most of our FHE faves.  To include everyone, even those who have yet to fully develop their fine motor skills, we changed things up.  And E decided he wanted to play by himself anyway.

This is what it looked like on E's part of the table--what concentration in lining up those animals for a parade!
This is what the game looks like in J's corner--more concentration with an added measure of strategy and patience.  A, not pictured, served as his coach and assistant, but really she was busy organizing the unused animals by color.
I love finding games that all of my kids can play together at the same table even if they're not doing the same thing.

By the way, our lesson was on the First Presidency's September message and we had the standard cookies as a treat.  And, drumroll please, we inaugurated a new weekly piece--a "Comedy Moment" to remind some of us (mainly me) not be so uptight.  J shared his favorite comic from one of his Calvin and Hobbes books.  I think this is going to be a great thing as it takes shape with each child's participation.

Thanks for these posts. I've started having FHE (again) with my family, thanks to your motivational posts. Check up on me, and it will motivate me to continue!

What a great game for kids. And...a comedy moment is a fantastic idea!

PS. Love that your girl was motivator/coach & spent her time organizing the unused animals. She's my kind of gal!
