His Week in the Spotlight

What a fun week being J's cheering section.  Yesterday on the way to school he asked "Mom, what's that word for a guy who can play football and fix things and do art and grow a garden and. . . "  He was referring to the conversation he and I had about the term "renaissance man" and he has great aspirations to become one.  I love watching him pursue his interests, and it's fun to celebrate the things he takes such pride in.

Concert on Monday,
and a performance at the school assembly on Tuesday.
(J is on the top row, sixth from the right.)
 Soccer on Wednesday.
Schoolwide open house on Thursday, to show off his work, his friends and his classroom.
And now, a story for your enjoyment.

J has a friend named "Em".  It is his first friend of the opposite gender.  (She's the cute girl in pink just below J in the close-up shot of the choir above.)  J and Em write each other notes, sometimes regularly, and because they're in first grade they bring them home and show them to their moms.  Usually the notes are about who might be chasing whom at recess or what silly thing their younger siblings did at home. I always consider them stoically as he shows them to me.  Em's mom K is a friend from church and so on Sundays we share with other what we've read in the notes from our kids to each other.

Here's one of my favorite interchanges:

Dear J,
Do you love me?
Because all the girls on the playground say that you do.
From Em

Are you crazy?!!
NEVER ask me that again!
From J

That is awesome! How like a girl to read into a guys actions inaccurately, and how like a guy to be clueless. Love it!!

Well he has the DTR all figured out. State your feelings for the current relationship, establish future relationship definitions . . . Keep working on that stoic face, Sis. Good luck.
