Cake and Trivia for Our Two Favorite California Girls

We celebrated our grandmas' birthdays on Friday with cupcake and Grandma trivia about their childhood.

My mom was born and raised in Central California, in Steinbeck's California as we say, amidst fields of cows and corn and nut trees.  Her father was a dairyman, and as a toddler she would daily walk the fifty yards alone from her house to her grandma's house as her mother watched.  When she was a little older her family moved off the ranch into town.  She loved her two brothers.  As a teenager she loved to waterski and she drove a pick-up truck.

Dan's mom was also born and raised in sunny Southern California.  Her house was surrounded by orange trees.  Her father was a cement contractor, and consequently poured an experimental pink driveway in front of their house.  She roller skated and road her bike all over it with her two younger sisters.   For a time she had the personal strength to attend church all by herself without the company of her family.  She loved her pet birds and tortoise.

We love our grandmas and all the fun stories from their lives that we get to tell our kids.
