Family Swim Team

Joining the pool this summer might be one of the best decisions of Summer 2012. We started out slowly, the kids clinging to me and to Nana on her visit, but they no longer need any flotation device to jump in and get back to the side. We made it to the pool this afternoon before the sky darkened and threatened to rain. We snuck in some family swim team practice for an hour.
A's courage developed slowly and steadily but she is tenacious and competitive. Her endurance in the pool is impressive--when I look away for a minute she has paddled out to the middle of the pool and is turning around to come back.
Something about the water brings out E's enthusiasm--his middle name should be Cannonball.  Elias Cannonball Player. It's been weeks of jumping into the water with barbaric shouts, and he is getting stronger with each practice. He loves to launch, jumping in and out at least three times more than the other kids in the pool.
J independently sets and works towards his swim goals. He is definitely ready for doing more than the dog paddle that keeps him afloat. He masters things without any instruction each time we go the pool.
I determined this summer that in lieu of swim lessons I would buy DVDs on teaching kids to swim and do it myself.  We have about four or five more weeks to practice this summer before our time runs out this swim season.

So much fun, Liz! And the pool all to yourself? Where do I sign up?

There is no better way than to spend a hot summer day at the pool. The warm sidewalk. The dripping of water down your leg and on to your squishy flip flops. The smell of chlorine. Sigh. I do love a good day at the pool...& it seems like your kids do too:)
