After getting back from North Carolina this past weekend and unpacking the car we went out to pizza at our new favorite pizza stop here in Cville. We enjoyed a ham and pineapple pizza with soda at 5 p.m. before the dinner rush. All the kids jabbered on and on and then listened to Dan talk about what he did for the three days we were away. They all adore him in their own individual ways, and that evening their vied for his attention with their clever musings, funny stories, and thoughtful questions. I observed the scene and thought about how much more flexible my kids are. They have become such good travelers, guests, and storytellers. It was a happy end to the four weeks of pure fun that ended our 2012.
We are ready for the New Year. We've renewed our efforts to improve acknowledging that we've made good progress in the past year. On Monday we set family goals for 2013--two fun ones that the kids helped us design (Fast Food Friday once a month and a monthly UVA sporting event) and one that will take daily discipline (family morning devotional). Translate that: the last one will take patience and long-suffering on the part of the parents, and cooperation on the part of the kids.
Here's to 2013! It will be a year of work and fun as we grow together.
