Lots of love this Valentines Day. This year we continued our traditions of making valentines and practicing saying "sweet words" (celebrated by the consumption of conversation hearts, of course). We used up at least a half-ream of red and pink construction paper yesterday alone. Both grandmas sent cards to the kids and they eagerly awaited opening them after our valentines dinner.
I'm making more attempts to punctuate our family life with little celebrations, and for some reason lately that means I think about which garlands I can make to hang from the ceiling. This one does great on a mantel, but don't hang it across a ceiling because then the hearts turn into teardrops. Dan says there's a metaphor in there, but I'm hoping he was just being funny.
Today was full of treats: root beer and pizza for dinner with the four missionaries in our ward and lots of candy for the kids. E opened his mailbox to find all ten of the lollipops he had attached to valentines for himself. Surprise.
Due to all of the sugar, there was no convincing them to go to bed on time, so they took baths (and splashed a lot of water around and out of the tub), brushed their teeth for about five minutes, and then played with rubber bands until nearly 8:30 p.m.

Now see, with this holiday you have me completely beat. Valentine's day was very low key at our house---Eric was out of town all week and I just didn't have the gumption for a big hoo ha. Maybe next year.
By the way, tonight I was perplexing over how to get a splinter out of my foot. D saw me and came over to inspect my foot. Brought a toy and firmly motioned my hands out of the way so she could take over. She then proceeded, with the confidence of the Queen of Sheba, to "fix" my foot. It was clear I was not needed in this endeavor. I thought of M waiting to be in charge of your kitchen. Ah, we are so lucky.
Oh, that LAST picture of the 3 of them is AWESOME! I love it. Thanks for sharing your day of love (and sugary kids) with us :)
