Monday Night Football

When it is J's turn to choose our family night activity, he will always choose family football.
Two weeks ago when we played I was reminded of a few things. Number one, at their ages our kids' temperaments frequently mirror ours so they are content as long as we don't get grumpy. Number two, the boys will tackle even if there are rules prohibiting it. Number three, E's habit of ramming into people with his head has re-emerged from the ashes--I thought it was dead, but it is back. Number four, A really needs to touch people in non-football ways, so high fives and silly partner dancing keep her engaged.
This fall on Monday nights you can picture the Players on their lawn. The boys will be fully engrossed in the game, completely aware of the score and past penalties, and we will be reminding J not to be too rough and warning E not to provoke J. D will be in his work clothes, having just gotten home. I will be avoiding returning inside to a kitchen full of dishes, but instead I'll be taking photos and distracting A for a little bit longer.

I feel extremely blessed to have both genders in the house. Don't you? I just wouldn't understand why boys act the way they so if I didn't have my own. And, let's be honest, I still don't get it. Love to imagine A dancing and being silly. That girl cracks me up.
