One More Glance at June 2014

Last month was so full of great memories from field trips and camps and last days. It doesn't do the month justice to sum it all up in one post, but this is necessary because I want to get on with posting about July and how our summer is going!

In June I accompanied J on his field trip to Jamestown. I was floored by how much his class has learned. This is a sad spot of ground and a happy spot all at once. People lived and died and struggled to survive here. Leaders did their best. Archaeologists continue their struggle.
My favorite spot was without a doubt the church. These pews do not look awesome, but it was what they had. J's highlight was the firing of the cannon. Or was it a musket?
Our school's excellent Field Day followed. J's teacher and class this year were amazing. I cannot say enough about how fortunate he was to land in such a great group. I caught up with them after they had enjoyed snow cones--spirits were high.
I found the twins enjoying parachute games with their class.

Reading Far Side comics with dad was a highlight this month, not to be forgotten…
…As was D's 33 mile ride on the Skyline Drive that he thought would kill him.
The last day of school came at last.
We waved off the buses at the day's end and went home to clean the house. It had been neglected for the entire school year.
The following week we helped with Cub Camp. Even the twins attended Sibling Camp for the first time. The highlights were J's favorite: archery, BB, and fishing.
The following week Sarah S and I pulled off another sweet week of YW camp with the help of about 100 other people who played their parts well. I love Sarah and everything I learn from her. I didn't ask her if I could post this photo, but it's my favorite photo ever because of her t-shirt.
We hope we don't get fired because we want to do this at least one more time around. If I'm lucky I'll get another go 'round after that.
We have been experiencing the normal post-camp let-down that comes after expending so much energy on this sort of project, but July has come and is in full swing. More posts on that to come.
