Another School Year Ends

Hollymead's Field Day is a highlight of my kids' school year and yesterday was the big day. After a week of rain and mud, the sun finally came out and Field Day was held on the nicest day of the week.
We started it off with our best smiles in our Field Day t-shirts before school, and we ended it with with the tug-of-war. I took a couple dozen photos, but they all have photos of children in my class and I probably shouldn't  publish them here.   J has been dreaming of the fifth grade tug-of-war since he first came to Hollymead at the twins' age. And his class won this year!

School ended is a rapid succession of celebratory events. It seemed we hardly had a day free of a concert, ceremony, or party.
We were pleasantly surprised at J's fifth grade promotion ceremony that he was awarded the math achievement award for his class. His teacher mentioned his curiosity, analytical mind, and hard work. He was really blessed this year with great adults at school.
J has also had such great friends at Hollymead. I am so impressed by how good and kind and funny they are.
On the last day of school we waved to busses and hugged teachers goodbye. It was sweet end to a successful year.
The twins were also given the gift of a wonderful teacher. In December their first teacher left to have a baby. Mrs. H came to fill in and we're so glad she never left! This woman knew my kids as individuals, inside and out, their strengths and their weaknesses. We grew to love her and pray for her. We are so thankful she lives in our neighborhood and look forward to seeing her more.

Next year J will be just across the parking lot at our neighborhood's middle school. He has a mixed assortment of feelings on the matter, but there is no question that he is ready for this big change.
