When we were younger we knew how important family photos were to my mom. We were on our very best behavior every time. The photographers made it easy or they made it miserable. I was so impressed by the photographer my mom found for this reunion's photos. She was so fast and so sensitive to the needs of our huge group and the smallest members of our tribe.
Notably missing are my brother Aaron and his family. Each day we missed them. I guess we should just be happy that we got five out of six kids together with our spouses in spite of crazy schedules and summer obligations.
My sister Deborah and her husband Eric came from California.
Anjanette and James came from California.
Jenn and Jon came from Texas.
Ronny and Denise came from Texas.
And us! We were happy to have travelled from Virginia.
I love this group of people. Something about the backlighting makes me realize how tall our kids are getting. My parents seem to be getting shorter and shorter as these kids grow like trees around them. The "kid photo" (much like the "kid table" at dinner) is always the best. I can't help but laugh having spent time with all of these kids and knowing their quirks and laughter.
When I look at these photos I am reminded how family persists, no matter what happens in the world and in my life. I am also reminded good my parents are, how they pressed forward through all the stresses of raising six kids, running their own small business, serving in our church, all while doing the things they loved in their spare moments. They taught me to dedicate myself to God and to my family, they taught me to learn new things and to work hard, and their examples continue to teach me about how to live.
