Thirteen Point One

Happy birthday, Mom!

To celebrate my mom's birthday today (OK, so it wasn't just for my mom) I ran the Traildawgs Half Marathon in beautiful White Clay Creek State Park in Delaware. It was my first half marathon, my first trail race, and the last time I wear these cotton socks on a race that takes all the runners through a creek twice! (Cotton socks--even socks that are fitted and have never given one problems before--only leave you with big blisters when they get that wet and stretched out.) What a great event--anybody know of a good trail race in my area in the next month or so? My shoes washed up rather nicely--as you can see--but they're ready to get dirty again!

You can't leave an event like that without making at least one Mormon connection. At the finish line I spotted a familiar face and I just couldn't walk away without saying something. "Are you Jack Rose?" I blurted out. (I'm not any more tactful then I've ever been.) "Yes." And I explained how I knew him. He is a CES instructor who made an indelible impression on my fourteen-year-old testimony. If you ever frequented EFY, he was the one in the bow tie and warm smile. All you leaders out there have no idea how much of an impact you have on your youth.

I can't believe that half of my siblings are serious runners. I know you are rolling your eyes because you don't consider yourself serious...and I know Ronny thinks the same because he doesn't run as much as he wants to (that's what he said last time, anyway). And now Jon...out of nowhere. Running his first marathon on this Friday. It's crazy.

The runners will probably end with you three, unfortunately. I would love to run but lack the motivation. After about 20 minutes I'm exhausted and hate it! And Deborah & Aaron have both told me they hate running. But, again, let's go back to Jon...who would have ever guessed he'd be a runner? I guess you never know.

ps. Sorry to hear about your blisters.

Congratulations! That's so fun. What a great thing to do. You should try to qualify to run the Boston Marathon next year. We'll come cheer you on!

Very cool Lizabeth! I am hoping to do a sprint triathalon this summer...we'll see. I broke my toe a few weeks ago (same toe as high school graduation) and it has set me back a bit. Oh well...I just need to be more careful. Anyways, congrats...you inspire me. Not only are you a great runner but you have a crazy good memory. If I would have see Jack Rose, I would have thought, "Hmm...that guy looks familiar" but would never have placed him.
