Farm Livin'

Today we went to the Howell Living History Farm about 20 minutes from our house. It was donated to our county's park commission with an endowment by a family who believed in the park system and wanted their farm to be a place the public could come free of charge to experience a turn-of-the-century farm. It is tucked in a beautiful corner of the Delaware Valley.

Everything is done just like it would have been done in the late 1800s. It's meant to be interactive--all the buildings are open for exploration and all of the animals seem to be pretty tolerant of people--so Joshua enjoyed spinning the sharpening wheel and rambling through all of the barns and sheds that housed all of the animals and equipment.

In the end he loved playing in the creek most. You know, throwing rocks, poking water bugs with his stick, dipping his feet in the water. You'll notice that he's holding a rock in his hand in the first two photos. He picked it up our way in planning to toss it on the way out. Typical. I didn't mind his fascination and plotting--I sat under this tree and read for an hour. Can't wait to go back to the farm!

What a fabulous place! I think it's wonderful to have the benefits of living in a city and still have such agricultural places to visit.

That's so great...and so funny that you and I were both out visiting farms this week. I love you new book list addition as well. I'm always looking for a good read. Maybe we should have a blogging book review once a month or something...
