Visit Amagansett, NY

If you ever get the chance, this village is worth the trip. I'd suggest you choose a time when the Hamptons (Amagansett is part of East Hampton) aren't bursting with people--the beaches were packed and understandably so--it is so beautiful right now. Joshua and I spent the last few days out on Long Island visiting my good friend Elan, her cute kids, and her parents who hosted us. (Thanks, Lynda and Norman!) The trainride alone was an adventure--3 trains and four and a half hours onboard! On Friday we went to Fresh Pond (above), a small pond connected to the bay by a small stream. The sport of choice is to net crabs, small eels, fish, and the likes. The kids had so much fun in the shallow water.
We also visited the Montauk Lighthouse, New York's first lighthouse. It was commissioned by George Washington and has been operating since 1797. Joshua chose to stay at the bottom but I climbed up the 137 steps to the light. Here's the view from the top.
The photo below depicts what we did most while Elan and I were together--we laughed a lot at our kids and their crazy antics and cute characteristics and we laughed about our lives and how things don't always turn out as planned. Elan and I were roomies at BYU ten years ago, and being together after all these years of friendship watching our kids develop friends of their own was priceless.
Our last night together Elan and I built a small campfire at the beach. The plan had been to roast marshmallows but our kids were completely engaged in the holes they were digging, so Elan and I enjoyed a s'more or two, enjoyed the beautiful sunset, and then hauled our kids home.
I am so grateful for good friends who still have space and time for us in their lives. With all that she and others have taught me, I still have so much to learn from strong and joyful women like Elan.

Sounds like you had such a fun trip! I can't get over how long your hair has gotten since we last saw you, oh 2 or 3 years ago in Seattle.

That looks so great. We will have to check it out while we are here on the east coast. What a wonderful time to connect with a friend.
