I love autumn. Who's with me on this one?Today I decided to start a list of every wonderful autumn thing. With less than two weeks until the autumnal equinox, this is how I'll countdown to fall's advent. Feel free to submit your reason why autumn is great as a comment.
Here's a quick photo of Joshua from last year's fall season. (Our camera is sick so I'm having to dig into past photos for a visual help.) I love Joshuas wide smile in this picture--this is how happy I am about the season from September to December. And this picture reminds me of one of my favorite autumn things.
- Crisp air, warm sun.
- Fall's color palette--still plenty of deep green, but lots of deep reds and oranges and gold.
- Harvest season, pumpkin fields, and many reasons to visit local farmers with big red barns.
- Fresh, juicy in-season pears, and apple desserts. (Hint: if any of you lives close to Cathy Owens you should get her to make you dumplings. Dan still is talking about those, Cathy!)
- College football. So I admit I don't watch that many games, but Dan does and he loves college football. A happy husband makes for a happy home.
- Raingear! Joshua was born in Seattle and I think that explains why he wants to wear his rainboats year-round. I don't blame him. I've always loved an excuse to don my raincoat.
- Our wedding anniversary. We try to make a big deal of it being our "family anniversary" and so we usually have a special fall family trip to celebrate.
- Thanksgiving--my favorite holiday.

Autumn is my favorite too! I love falling back with daylight savings and I know it's weird, but I like being home in the evening when it's dark and rainy, but really warm inside.
I love Fall too! Growing up in Seattle I remember when it'd rain for 1-2 weeks straight! So okay that got a little old. But fall for me is beautiful colors, cozy rainy evenings, and the excitement of all the holidays! Yay Fall!
I too love all of those things you listed...today was definitely warm crisp air..and we have some juicy pears in our backyard from our pear tree (our one sort of gardening thing)..can't wait for the leaves to change.
There's nothing like stepping out of a storm into a house that smells of homemade chicken noodle soup & a spiced pumpkin candle. And how about scarves & mittens, too? Time to plant the paper whites.
I am so with you on this one! While I do LOVE the pool and beach and sunshine that summer affords, there is something about heading outside on a cool morning! The smell of the air and wearing a light sweater...the calm before the winter storm!
Oooh! You've given me the chills! I just love pumpkins and fall leaves and crisp air and apples and on and on and on...
For me, six months to spring and summer! I will miss hot days, trips to the beach, fresh fruit, good tomatoes, sand in my toes, tanned legs, capris, the green lawn, long days... all more than I look forward to fall/winter. The Holidays save the day!
I have to say I like fall too, but summer is my favorite. My two favorite things about fall are the change of leave colors and Halloween!
Maybe I need to be a native to enjoy the rest :-)
Bring on the fall beauty but leave the pollen behind! That's what I always say. That little boy just couldn't be cuter.
I love fall! The cooler temperatures, the crisp in the air, and all the comfort food that seems to come out of my kitchen. I couldn't wait for fall this year, and made a Tuscan stew the other night.
Hey! This is one of your old companions from Coimbra, Portugal. (Sister Graham) You sent me a Christmas card last year with your blog address and it has been fun to read them and stay connected to your adorable family! Congrats on your upcoming addition! We just created our own blog as well. It is jtylerhatch.blogspot.com I am expecting our first in November (it's a girl).
We are loving Fall too! My fave Fall memory: rainy days forcing me to stay indoors and do some fall cooking before the holidays start!
I love Hillary's comment, I would have to completely agree. I am more motivated to cook in the Fall/Winter months. And I absolutely love the fall colors on the trees.
