Fall is falling . . .fast! As a child I remember the end of summer slowly passing, but once school started, things just accelerated to January first. Things are definitely picking up speed around here, possibly because I'm feeling so much better and so I can do a whole lot more than I was doing during those yucky months that we're all trying to forget about. Here's what we've been up to.
Joshua--Joshua started "preschool" with our little moms co-op, and he's so lucky to have ME as his first teacher. He loves the gross motor activities most, so if we can act it out or make it into an aerobic activity we do it! He also gets in as much playtime with friends as possible. He loves his sunbeams teacher Sister Meyerson and is constantly impressing us with what he learns in her class. (And I'm not just saying that because you check in on this blog, Jen--he simply adores you!)
His latest obsession is airplanes and virtually anything having to do with flight and airports--you really should see him demonstrate what the runway guys who park planes look like when they're hard at work. Last night for FHE he was in charge of the lesson and he told me he was going to teach the lesson on planes. I suggested that he teach about something that Heavenly Father wants us to know, and he said "OK, then I'll teach about planes and church and stuff." We found a story from a Friend thirty years ago that told about Elder Ballard flying in a small plane in the fog and how the air traffic controller guided them to safety. Phew.
Liz--Hooray for having a school schedule again! There is an educator inside of me that can no longer be covered up by my other roles. I am loving our preschool co-op and I feel so lucky to get to teach this first quarter. I think I'll start a little side column on this blog of what we've talked about that week just for all of you out there who are doing something similar. Primary has been another great outlet for teaching, and I love the women who I work with--they are amazing ladies, great friends, and a lot of fun.
I'm grateful to be feeling better, and I'm getting over my failures during that period as a gardener, a visiting teacher, friend, etc. Oh, well. Time to press forward, till under the jungle of vegetable plants, and move forward with all the really fun stuff I have to do right now. Our primary program is just around the corner along with all my favorite autumn events.
Dan--The lawn-planting saga has really gone on long enough (for 6 weeks or so). It actually all started last February when Dan took a lawncare class through the county ag extension--four 2-hour sessions equipped him with a game plan for having beautiful lawn. To make a long story short he killed the whole lawn with Round-up, rented three machines and a pick-up truck for two weekends, stripped the dead sod and thatch, dug out the roots, tilled, raked, shoveled, and final seeded the lawn. We're in the final waiting days before germinatation and we're just praying that the wild garlic that naturally sprouts at this time of the year doesn't force out the tall fescue and kentucky bluegrass that Dan has prepared the soil for. Now we water, and we wait.
Of course, it's fall, so Dan's sidetracked (from worrying about the lawn) with Cougar football and more college football and presently Ken Burns' new documentary The War on PBS.

Joshua is hilarious, glad you're feeling better & I can't wait to see if the grass grows! I'll have to hit up Dan for some suggestions b/c our grass is a little sad!
Liz you are truly amazing! All that you do and you have it all under control in such a peaceful way :) I would love to see some pictures of your soon-to-be-beautiful-lawn. It's a lot of work isn't it! We are almost done rototilling. The Bradshaws (older) loaned us their rototiller :) I realize now why so many of our prophets were farm kids growing up. You sure learn a lot taking care of this beautiful earth!
It's so good to hear about what you're doing. I just love when it's time to go back to school. I miss it so much!
liz..good luck on the lawn, ours was so beautiful this spring after the new sod, but now, it is yellowish and in need of some rain..I hope yours turns out better. I am thrilled to hear you are feeling good, you deserve it..the co-op sounds like so much fun...we did one last year (it was more like learn a letter and shape and then play and have a snack) and now everyone has moved on to 'real' pre-school but us..maybe next year :)
Joshua-you are now my favorite and I'm not just saying that because I know I can get a rise from the the other mom's that check this blog. I'm just glad he's listening in class. Who knew that spiderman, wiggle time and lots of talk on Transformers could acutally let me have time to teach.
Liz, I'm so so glad you are feeling better. Welcome back to the land of living...at that's what I always told myself!
The preschool sounds great. My friend has started a preschool co-op with a blog that you should check out if you are interested. It is picklepreschool.blogspot.com Although I am sure you are never out of ideas. I wish I lived by you so that we could do the preschool together.
Hey Liz,
Thanks for sharing this with us.
I am glad that you are feeling better as well. Good luck on the lawn.
Liz, I'm so glad you are feeling better! Hooray! Good luck pulling together the Primary program. It is that time of year already, isn't it.
I was not harassing the seal by taking it's picture. It was sleeping.
We love The War. Its a great documentary! Glad to hear you are feeling better.
Hi Players. Just wanted to say hi and that we're loving the fall weather here too. Isn't it wonderful? Oh, and a little rise and shout from Albuquerque too, go Cougars!
