J and I took advantage of D's overnight worktrip to Washington, DC this past week to see some DC sites. D's company's office is a block and a half from the Mall and so his hotel was a block from the Air and Space Museum this time around. We couldn't resist. We ended up having the place to ourselves--maybe the frozen puddles that we "skated" across are a hint as to why. Turns out that DC is a pretty quiet and cold place in January.

The first day we went to the Air and Space Museum. We did a lot of this . . .

and this. I'm discovering, is quite the collector (as made evident by his huge Thomas the Tank Engine collection and his growing matchbox airplane collection) and so he really appreciated the collections in the Air and Space Museum whether they were hanging from the roof or mounted on the wall. We could have spent all day playing the "Name the Plane" game.

Snapping photos in a museum is one big lighting challenge. I need to practice more. And J could really use the practice in a museum, too. We visited the Museum of Natural History on Friday and, though the dinosaurs had him completely captivated, his curiosity didn't last long enough for me to take every bit of that beautiful place in--those Smithsonians are amazing. I look forward to a return trip.

This was my favorite part of trip, I think. I was able to meet up with "JJ", a good friend from which time and distance have separated me. She is so wonderful and I loved hearing that she is well and happy, and I couldn't help but feel that her life is going perfectly for her. After an hour and a a half at Quiznos my little J had claimed her as his friend. He confessed, as we pulled out of the parking lot, that he'll miss her. I will, too, until we get to meet again.O

How fun. I love those work trips. That airplane museum is great. We went there when Josh was in DC. Unfortunately we didn't stay long as Josh got sick and Zach was only 11 months old and I was four months prego. Anyway, I am glad you guys had fun!
Going to Washington D.C is fun. I went a few years ago and I really enjoy it. Anyway I am glad that you had fun.
I hope you had fun with JJ...she lived across from me in Chatham at the BY..looks like a fun time in DC...Lewis would have loved that airplane museum...so fun!
One of my favorite spots is the Building Museum. They have an area just for kids and they can construct and demolish--yeah!
I decided after our stint there that I will have to go back just with Andrew to appreciate all that those museums have to offer (it's quite the challenge with kiddos).
Good for you,
Andrea
Ahh, that looks like such a fun trip. There are so many great things to enjoy in DC. Glad you had a chance to visit before the babies arrive.
We're thinking about you!
I imagine there's a museum on every corner there in D.C.! What a memorable trip!
