Family Home Evening: what did you do?

I love Monday nights for one reason: Family Home Evening! (Otherwise know as "Fetch-ee" in the Bjarnason home of days gone by.)

What did you do?

Tonight we had a lesson on listening to the prophet, we ate Apple Cake (from this month's issue of Cooking Light), and J chose Pictionary as the activity. We've adopted it recently as our favorite go-to activity for Monday night. J inevitably pulls ahead and wins by a point at the end which is fun for him. I'd guess D probably loves coming up with clever pictures most--today he drew a rectangle and we guessed forever until he gave us lots of hints and we figured out it was Kansas! My favorite part of this activity is watching J draw. I've never considered myself to be much of an artist, but he has all the confidence in the world as he draws. I should have taken a photo of tonight's portrait of our fish Henry. Here's a shot of last week's winning sketch by J, of course.
I'm so thankful for my family. Sometimes our responsibility (to teach our children how to find joy) seems unwieldy, but Family Home Evening makes that easier at least once during the week.

Here's a recent shot of our crew. Go Team Player!

Sounds fun! Trouble is just getting into his "Faith in God" booklet, and it was his turn for the lesson tonight. So he directed a great discussion about prayers and how praying can increase our faith in Heavenly Father.

My favorite part of the discussion was when we talked about what it meant to "pray always." Triple (4 years old) said it was perfectly acceptable to miss church from now on because he was going to be at home kneeling down saying a prayer all day :)

Nothing is cuter than two babies in Baby Bjorns! And J of course :) I love your idea of Pictionary! We should do that. Our kids love to draw. Tonight we had a lesson about leaves - sang "Leaves Are Falling All Around," learned why they change color, gathered leaves in our front yard, and finally made trees with leaves (big pretzel rods and colored M&Ms "glued" on with cream cheese). Unfortunately the snack tasted nasty but our kids liked it somehow :)

I too am going to steal the pictionary idea. We have one that loves to draw (can you guess which one?) BTW- you were right about which twin... Tonight for FHE we read President Eyring's story about giving and then went through our toys... We learned a lot less than Mommy hoped. Hmmm.

You are so fantastic. I wish you could be my mom (except I'm so glad I have my mom!) and those little guys are so so so lucky to have you! I had dinner with my dad tonight - so it was a real family home evening for me! Yay! That never happens!!! And I love that you said unwieldy. Why can't I live closer to you??!!

What a great idea! I love the family photo. I just love the little baby feet and you have twice as much cuteness in that area. Last night we were lucky to have daddy home to play with for FHE. Usually he gets home as our little one is heading to bed so that was a nice family treat for us.

I love those little faces.
And...I love that you ALWAYS have dessert with FHE. Maybe that's motivation for us to be more consistent with it.
Man, J is going to be tall!!!
I fear that next time I see him, he'll be looking me straight in the eyes.

What an adorable family you are!
We started our FHE with zip-a-dee-doo-dah (per Scott's enthusiastic request, we start every FHE with zip-a-dee-doo-dah), talked about manners and kidness, sang "I want to be kind to everyone," and then ate a bowl of chocolate ice cream. I admit, the whole thing was a bit more last minute than I like to make a habit of doing, but hey, at least we did it, right?
You guys really are a very cute bunch.
