"Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat"

Did anyone else sing that round when they were little? My third-grade teacher Dolores Geisler was perhaps the coolest music teacher in the world. She taught as that song at Christmas time and it was my favorite part of December schooldays that year.

Things we're doing now that Christmas is coming include:

1. D's practicing up for his ward banjo debut at Friday's ward party. He's taken up clawhammer style--I love it. Clawhammer isn't quite as plunky as Dixieland music, and not as loud and fast as five-finger like in the Beverly Hillbillies song. It sounds a little more folksy than bluegrass, if that helps.
2. We have a couple advent calendars going. A day on the Charlie Brown calendar directed us to make a treat for the birds. I hope they'll eat pine nuts and peanut butter, because J consumed all the dried fruit I had intended to use.

3. Blocking off the Christmas tree by rearranging the furniture. I'm just too cheap to go and buy one of those wrap-around gates, and we really wanted to have our Christmas tree in the living room, so we've been strategically redecorating.
4. Eating citrus. D teases me for reminscing about Christmas in California each and every time I eat an orange in his presence, but I almost can't help it! Oh, how I love the taste of oranges in December. I just enjoyed a clementine--heavenly.

Mmmm, clementines are my favorite, I eat them like candy. I also learned "Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat", that's how I learned what a hay-penny is!

I'm so jealous that you could potentially have a white Christmas. Wish I were there to celebrate with you & your kids. Not to mention there to enjoy Dan's banjo jammin'.

Oh &...I CAN NOT get enough oranges. Is it really a California thing?

Sheldon started me on the whole "oranges every day in December" ride because his Grandma used to send us a box from Arizona each year. Now we just buy our own, but it is a must have, for sure! Peaches in September, Oranges in December :)

Cute post, Liz! I LOVE the Muppets version of that song. Have you heard it? It was a Christmas classic in our home! Enjoy the holiday season and the twins 1st Christmas!

When we were in Kansas City, Grandma Irene sent us a box of oranges from her tree. I had a group of youth over for I don't know what reason and we all had a party eating them. That box was impressive and the aroma amazing! There were just two of you then: Deborah and Ronny.

Look at those kids!

we are citrus lovers too!! Its tradition in our family to get the big boxes of sunkist oranges at christmas time and make fresh squeezed OJ on christmas morning.. I didnt notice last year if they have the big boxes out here in NJ. I see alot of clementines but not the oranges..Thankfully we will be in utah for xmas this year where we can get lots of oranges..

How fun and cute!! Our little guy won't even touch the tree. We even sit him in front of it and he will barely touch it and then he turns around and goes back for the toys. Guess we are lucky even though we really want to see him go for the tree.

We are with you on the oranges. We are buying a large bag full each week.

How fun is that! I love seeing Dan practice with all three kids around him!

By the way, D.F stands for Distrito Federal. It is the state we live in...

Oh I know that one. I know it well!

Can't wait to hear the blue grass. I'm a sucker for it.

We always sing that song. It's not Christmas without it. My favorite part of this post is the twins in the background doing something cute in each picture. It gives a great glimpse of everyday life with those cuties.

Yeah, I thought about the difference between my two experiences as well...a little kindness sure goes a long way.

I love clementines!

Oh, and if you can find it, John Denver did a Christmas special with the Muppets and they have a great version of "Christmas is coming". Time to get that cd out...

Your family is looking great!

It's easy to block the Christmas tree if you have two babies instead of two puppies - at least like ours. I think I'll have to give the presents full of dog bites if I don't have time to wrap everything again.
I love to visit you blog even when I understand just half of what's going on.
