J got to stay home from school last week because of "icy conditions". I know he loves preschool, but I love it when he doesn't have to go for selfish reasons--I just love having him at home with the babies. J finds so much satisfaction in being outside, and cold winter days do not suppress his instincts to be out in the yard. Last week he shoveled snow three times in one day. Not kidding. So here he is clearing the sidewalk at 8:30 a.m. with the twins looking on. If you can't tell, the glass storm door is closed so that they can see their big brother in action.

I'm not sure the twins know about the wonders of the outside world yet. It's probably good that they don't know about the freedom of the great outdoors while it's frozen and wet out there right now. When you're E, the only door you need to have open is the dishwasher door--he busies himself with all the spinning, flipping, rolling his little fingers can handle. He loves to open things and shut them, and then open them and shut them. If he sprint-crawls to an open door, chances are he won't try to escape. Most likely he just wants to practice swinging the door on its hinges.

A on the other hand will escape through doors, gates, and up stairways if given the opportunity. She has places to go in this life. J is a pretty clever big brother--he figured out that the kitchen stepstool doubles as toddler climbing apparatus while I'm busy making dinner.

And there's one more pic since she's so cute.

What cute pics, Liz! Thanks for diligently updating your blog--makes you guys seem not quite so far away :)
Those twins are just loving life! The dishwasher is such a baby magnet isn't it! Lucy loves to stand there and bat at things. I guess it's right at their level. That little step stool has gotta be the coolest thing in your house, in your kids' mind. It's always so fun to see what's happening at your house!
A is so adorable. And she looks SO much like her mama.
