In the Afternoon--Peace Soup

In the early afternoon we attempt to make dinner. At this stage of my life I'm ultra-slow at making dinner.
Check out that start-time on the range clock. See? I'm not fibbing.
My charges encourage me to developing my multi-tasking skills--we must also try on shoes, work through issues, pick up J from school, stop by the post office, and snuggle on the couch.

It makes for a very drawn-out meal preparation. Today's was comically lengthy. Maybe I should write a book or start my own blog: "The Slow-Cooker". And it wouldn't involve a crockpot. It would involve ME and my kids, of course. Today's post would be entitled "Turkey Noodle Soup in Just Under Four Hours."
It was 6:30 p.m. when we finally asked a blessing on the food, and it was all worth it when the babies were busy with bread and J slowly spooned his soup.

"Mom," he said quietly "this is the best peace soup ever."

Ahhh. What he really meant was "comfort food", but I didn't say anything. "Peace soup"? After all the starts and stops and time-outs and errands, I'll take it.

I loved your post because it sounds so familiar! So many things are slow for me now, (like Mitch has to be at church 20 min early, but we start leaving the same time he does just to make it on time). But I like involving my kids with the dinner preparation, and once you realize that you have to factor in extra time, it all goes so much better. Great pictures too. Your kids are so lucky to have you!

Liz, you are such a sweet momma and your kids are so blessed to have a mommy who makes dinner for them, despite all the craziness of the day. I remember those days well...believe me, you will blink and they will be gone. Your "peace soup" is priceless!!!

Your blog makes me sooooooooo happy! And nothing makes me want to be a mother more than reading about you and your sweet family! I mean it! I read it whenever I need to remember that marriage and family are Plan A! And worth it!!! I wish the whole world was full of Lizzies. Except you're the best one there ever was.
