Weekend Getaway to the Hospital

D and I took a couple days off together with E in the pediatric care unit in New Brunswick. Where else would you go on an over-nighter with a nearly-two-year old? It's too bad those kinds of visits always start out with such stressful conditions.
{Our lovely accomodations and the amenities of the room}
{The treatment}
It all started when E had a seizure on Saturday at about noon--it lasted for about two minutes and left him completely unable to respond to us for a half hour afterwards. We spent half the day in the ER here in our local hospital before being transferred to the larger pediatric facility for twenty-four hour observation and rehydration. (I don't know if that's what you really call a treatment for dehydration, but that's what they were doing.) Though we were treated well while we were there, we were happy to be released last night. More than anything, we're happy to see his smile again.
The official diagnosis is febrile seizures--they are relatively harmless and might recur until he's around six. We are thankful for so many things: for a healthy boy with only a temporary short circuit, for good friends who took our other sick kids at a moment's notice, for Priesthood blessings that were given in the exact moment of need, for good health care professionals, for insurance, for a new acquaintance who two weeks ago described to me in detail her daughter's febrile seizures before knowing that I'd need to know this. It all worked out well--Heavenly Father is in charge.

Oh my, Liz! How SCARY! But, how wonderful that the little man is ok and you know what is going on. I will be praying for him (and for you!) That picture of the him smiling is just priceless (and certainly a welcomed response for his parents!)

Love the title of your post. What a clam, sweet, and grateful response to what surely was not calm and sweet all of the time. "Interesting" new friend you have there....love that.

It's so good to know that all is well. It does sound like a scary way to spend the weekend, but I love how we see God's hand working in our lives when things like this happen. You are so blessed by good friends, smart doctors, and priesthood blessings.

As always, Liz, you amaze me. I love how you can put together all of the blessings that made this trial less of a trial than it may have been otherwise. I'm so happy E is okay :)

So glad he's ok, D&L! Good job having an awesome attitude about it. Amazing that you were given the information you needed before you knew that you even needed it. Hooray for Heavenly Father's hands in our lives.

I'm glad he is doing better. My cousin Jenny had a similar experience with her little boy. I'm glad things are better. Our prayers are with you.

I am crying tears of gratitude. Heavenly Father truly does know and care for each and everyone of us. He places angels in our midst. If we only were more aware.

My little sis had some relatively innocuous seizures when she was young (but not that young). I just emailed my mom to ask her if that's what Rachel (my sister) had. I'm glad you survived that very scary initial uncertainty and I can see why you were glad to get his smile back-- its a magical one.
