Current Events--January 2010

J "ended the day on gold" twice this week, which basically means he was listening and following directions and being kind and such in kindergarten. I played my blind-eye card one day following his announcement and let him swat the tiny rubber bouncy ball with the racquetball racquet and he had a blast thinking he was getting away with it. Which he was. But don't tell him that I know that he was.
E has a runny nose today which means I have a smeared shoulder today. At least he likes to snuggle with me which I'm always up for. His little temper has been very evident this week. Just today he has launched at close range a baseball, a spatula, a boot, and a mason jar. Maybe he'll be able to channel that force into a nice curveball in a few years.
In other fashion news, A has decided that her tutu is the perfect petticoat--it makes for the cutest little toddler bustle. As of this week she also makes a perfect little kissing noise and sings my name (and other unintelligible words) for fun.
Our fish survived another week of torture and torment. I continually fear for his life. If the twins aren't over-feeding him, they're tapping on his bowl or trying to fish him out with a wooden spoon. Really they do it all with a friendly smile--"Hi, On-REE" they say--but I should probably move him in with our ficus--they could commiserate about their lives together.

On a more serious news, I'm deeply saddened by the loss of life that Haiti has experienced. They are so unequipped for crises of this sort. All I can think about are the poor people who are searching for lost family members. We have many Haitian friends here at Church and I almost can't bear to call them as they await news of their family members there.

Thanks for the advice. I like the group interviews idea. Toddler petticoats are always delightful. Grace has sported a few in her day and I am waiting for Charlotte to get to that phase. I like the "blind eye card." They get so much pleasure out of doing something they know they are not supposed to do. And can you blame them? I still get a bit of a thrill myself sometimes doing things my mom would have opposed.
