In the Afternoon--His Fan Club

In the afternoon after we bring J home from school he entertains/leads/tolerates his fan club.  Sometimes this lasts for two minutes.  If weather permits and we're outside it can last much longer.
They are his most loyal followers--nobody adores him like they do.  They follow him around like ducklings, taking his interests so seriously. They want to do everything he does.   They stand outside his bedroom door when he's independently engaged in play and ask to be admitted.  They beg to be hoisted into the climbing tree with him.
Today, the fan club joined him in his worm search.  J is practicing his worm-wrangling skills in preparation for fishing season.  The kitchen compost bin is the perfect hunting ground for such sport.
(Yes, that's a toppled 12-foot tree, victim of a recent windstorm.)
Today he taught his pupils his methods: dig, scoop, dump, inspect, select.  Repeat.  "Wums", they say over and over as they squeal and experiment with the wiggly creatures.

They remain content just to be near him.  He, for the most part, remains patient when they move in a little too close.  I remain surprised by what he can get them to do.

Don't you love wums? And those adorable children, of course. I'm glad they have a compost bin to play in (everyone should).

What a blessing to have siblings! What a cute group they are. We're getting glimpses of the unique big brother/little brother relationship as Sam gets older and it is so exciting.

Liz, you should do a post about your method for compost. I am eager to start composting ourselves once we move to our new house, but am a little intimidated. I got spoiled in Seattle with the food/yard waste collection and have been so sad this year at how much more trash we produce without composting. I know you have oodles of time to post such things. : ) But if you get the time, I would love to benefit from your wisdom.

Wow! He's already collecting for fishing season. Looks like you've got a devoted fisherman on your hands. And speaking of devoted, how 'bout that cute fan club of his? Love A's worm collecting getup. Pink, pink, pink. I'm surprised she wasn't swearing her tutu. Maybe next time.

Several of these made me chuckle. I immediately saw YOU, Liz in your little daughter's face riding in the wagon. Really darling outdoor photos...they are obviously happy to finally be able to GO OUTSIDE!
