The First Ten Things He Said about His New School (with a Few Photos)

I took notes on J's report of his first day of school here in Charlottesville.  Here are the first ten things he said to me.   I love getting a peek into his thinking--I love re-reading them and trying to make sense of them based on my own experience as a teacher.  The photos are some of my favorite recent snapshots of him.

Older Brother Extraordinaire
1.  Mrs. H is supernice.  She doesn't yell at anybody.
2.  We get PE four days a week.  In PE we played a fun game where ran around with pool noodles trying to hit little pieces of pool noodles into goals.
3.  Mrs. H chose me to be the "secret singer" and I did good in the lunchline so I got a lollipop.
Funny Man--Here he's entertaining the twins with blue bear and his pencil bazooka.
4.  There's a girl in my class named Alex.  She looks like Mary Nielsen.
5.  At recess we watched Arthur because we couldn't go outside in the cold.  The doctor said we can't go outside when it's this cold.
6.  My desk has a nametag on it with my name.  It also has all the shapes and the Spanish words that go with them.
Afterschool Reading--this magical time has me mystified.  He's becoming a reader!
7.  I read a book to Mrs. H.  It's called The Greedy Dog and His Bone.
8.  The school library is the best part of the school.  It has lights that are like the lights in the Temple.
9.  Mrs. H has a camera on her desk that projects what's on her desk on a big white screen.
Missing:  One front tooth (as of today)
10.  Mrs. H said we all have homework to do the snow dance.  She'll know if we did our homework--if it snows we did it.

You made it! I love J's ten things (good job writing them down). It sounds like he has a great teacher.

I just love that he commented about her not yelling. Awesome. And the snow dance part. Gotta love a teacher who tells her kids to do a snow dance so they can have a day off (sounds like something I would have said...)

PS. Is it me or did he grow freckles overnight?
