Goodbye, Little White Winking Cape

I love this little house in New Jersey.  There are thousands that are very similar to it in our township.  They are great places to have family dinners and game nights and storytimes and spend holidays.  They are the perfect spot for bringing home newborn babies, for surrounding with flowers and plants, and for fixing up. Chatting with neighbors on their porches is effortless, shoveling snow off their walks is manageable, and their windows make possible watching trick-or-treaters and Santas in firetrucks.

And they have character after sixty years of housing families.  That's what we were looking for when we chose this house.  I always thought our little white cape cod looked like it was winking.
We moved.  On Friday I drove away from our house with our three little kids--we left in the wake of the big moving truck.  It was a little sad, but only because I'm really bad at saying goodbye and I felt like that's what we had to do with our little house (and all our adopted family there) for a time.

On Saturday we landed in Virginia.  Maybe tomorrow I'll locate my missing camera to show that we are smiling again.  This will be a great place for each member of our family--I can feel it.

Awwwwww..... :( I'm sad that I won't be seeing pictures of that cute little house. I feel attached to it and I've never even set foot there. Good luck with your new adventures! We're thinking of you in Idaho!

I know how hard it is to say goodbye to a loved home, and that one just looks like a wonderful place! But I'm also so excited that you're here in VA! Charlottesville is right in between my parents' home and mine (and a great place to live). So maybe after Christmas and when you guys are a little more settled in, we should get together. I'd love to see you again!

I know this wasn't supposed to make me cry, but it did! You are so good at "blooming where you are planted" that I have no doubt Charlottesville will feel like home in no time. I, however, will also miss that cute little winking house. Love you guys!

It was a great little home. I personally loved the scary narrow & squeaking staircase :) Can't wait to see pictures of your new place (hmmm I wonder how soon I can manage a trip your way with two kids under 2).

You said it! That's exactly how I feel about OUR Cape Cod house, and just how I would feel if I were leaving it. Best wishes with all the transitions!

Oh, wow. This is news. I understand your feelings...another chapter. Sort of like how I feel when I read the last page of a good book. That's when it's the best time to start another new good one. :)

You made it! I was wondering. I'm bad at good-byes b/c I cry and make a fool of myself-which is why I never stopped over for the official last final good-bye. I can't wait to see how happy you all are. And pics of the house-you know I love that stuff. Have fun on this new adventure of yours! Ty is home sick and says to tell J hi!

I love the winking comment...so cute! Our homes do have little personalities. You'll have to email me your new address. Now I definitely need to plan a trip...you and Juliet will be so close!

I too am dying to know where in Virginia! We left Fairfax two years ago. Still miss it terribly. Your cape house - so darling. Goodbyes are tough. Always. And what a crazy time to move! Hang in there lady! If anyone can handle it all with grace, it's you!
