January always seems to last for awhile. Mid-January could be it's very own month on my emotional calendar. It is mid-month and I haven't left as much of a record of our activities as I usually do.
Our computer has been going to work with D during the day so I only have the few hours after the kids are in bed to do all my free time things. Things on the computer sometimes get knocked down on the list of priorities.
J walks home from school with the neighbor kids these days and he's in the chess club on Wednesdays after school. (I know--I'm asking the same question. When was he old enough to do these things?)
A is just as motherly as ever. She has adopted the Cabbage Patch kids from my childhood. Today during quiet time in the afternoon the boys were watching Star Wars while I fold laundry. She got off the couch and whispered in my ear: "I'm going upstairs to take care of my babies." And with that she exited.
We can't get enough of Angry Birds. I'm serious I thought our home would be the last home in Virginia to have an IPad/ITouch/IPhone, but D's work provided this clever little thing and so it sometimes gets recruited for family entertainment.
And yet this vintage Fisher Price train that my mom found on Ebay moves around the house as E uses it for transporting various commodities from one room to the next. Sometimes carrots. Sometimes AA batteries. Sometimes plastic circus animals. Everyday he puts it to work.
January is a cold month, but the birds are returning to the trees all around us. The variety of birdsongs are evidence that it won't be winter forever, so I'm savoring all-things-winter until spring is sprung.
Tell me this: which winter things do you enjoy savoring?
I'll post my list before the winter trudges out of Virginia. I've got awhile, I think.

Love reading your blog, as usual!
I'm finding myself savoring January more than ever this year. My favorites are the quiet time to get things in order following the bustle of the holidays and no outdoor projects vying for my attention. And can't forget back to school! (Though we're getting little of that around here.)
True confession: I LOVE ANGRY BIRDS!
What a pleasant, wonderful neighborhood for your home.
Winter... hmmmmmm.. I love the peace of January. After four hectic months, I love that the world comes to a screeching halt.
I love that it is dark at 5pm and I have now come to the point in my life when I say, "Oh, it is dark outside, I am not going ANYWHERE!"
I love foggy mornings, sweaters, coats and boots as I hustle in from the cold.
I just love that your girl takes care of her babies. Wish she were here to help me take care of mine...
greg and the kids are all addicted to angry birds as well. hilarious. I need to resurrect my old cabbage patch dolls for char.
january has always been fun for me cuz its my birthday and next its char's...it helps put some cheer in this gloomy month!! I love how it makes me re-evaluate and reminds me to re-charge my batteries!!
I love the snow. Really, it's so beautiful. It puts such a hush on everything -- peaceful, serene, maybe a snow day or two (or more here in VA where everything closes at the first signs) means unplanned holidays at home with sledding, hot chocolate, pjs all day, etc. And I love to ski, haven't been in years, and get to take my oldest next week! It can't get much better than flying down the mountain on skis!
I love the snow and back to the world as usual. It slows down and I stay home more because i spent all my money the month before. But really it is all about the SNOW!!
