We went on a winter walk on Saturday on the Saunders-Monticello Trail along the side of Carter's Mountain, former home of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. A path of dirt trail and boardwalk guide you the two miles from the Monticello Visitor Center to Kemper Park.
A got on her game face, and we gave the kids parental pep talks along the way.
It was chilly but we enjoyed the late afternoon light for taking unconventional family photos.
Two miles couldn't be more beautiful, even in winter. I can see why former statesmen would choose these woods of Virginia for their homes hundreds of years ago.
Then on Sunday, a friend from my Seattle days came into town with her two kids. It was wonderful to see her, stay up late chatting, and just enjoy her family and how it has grown in the last five years.
We went to Monticello on Monday. What a great home and a great tour guide! And I can't wait to go back at which time I'll take more photos that will surely convince to you to come visit soon!
Thanks for your visit J family--we look forward to our next reunion.

Yes. Now that does win the prize for how to spend a President's Day holiday. Oh, and the shadow shots.
I wish I could listen in on the parental pep talks. I bet they're inspiring.
