An Election Day Confession

I almost didn't vote even though

1.  we had been reminded on Sunday over the pulpit that it is our civic duty to study out the issues and vote according to our understanding
2.  the kids and I while running errands repeatedly bumped into people I knew who had asked me if I had voted and
3.  I am just recently resolved to be informed and confident about my choice in next year's presidential election.

Gratefully those three things worked on me until I helped the kids be busy for an hour so that I could cram on ballot issues using the Internet as my helper.  And then I took my three other helpers with me, and after making my selections, we all pushed the "Cast Vote" button together.

And I felt like I had done the right thing and my kids were able to come along with me in the process.

Tell me this:  how do you educate yourself so that you make a confident decision in the voters' booth?

Joe and I try to prepare as much as we can - we read, we listen to debates/news casts online/radio. We talk to a bunch of friends and family members. It's actually nice that Joe and I almost ALWAYS agree on the issues, when it comes to any election. It certainly makes the research easier. (and sometimes, we both find ourselves cramming at the last minute on some of the things on the ballot).

Don't you miss voter booklets in Washington? Not that they told everything, but they were such a nice starting point! I seem to have a hard time just figuring out what's going to be on my ballot here. But after a quick Internet search and some discussion with a friend, I did vote.
