Over the Weekend: Father, Sons, Daughters, Mothers

This was a big weekend for the Players.  We had three big events in just three days.  It deserves a wordy, photo-full post since it's a weekend to remember.

On Friday at 4:00 p.m. the boys headed over the mountains to our church's campout for fathers and sons.  They made it though the cold night and came home with tales of skits and large-mouthed bass and canoes and cold nights.  They are already looking forward to next year.
Saturday I loaded thirty-five planter boxes of wheat grass into the car to drive over the same mountain, but this time it was for a large gathering of women.  Two hundred of them.
I had a variety of responsibilities, but for the first time ever I was in charge of centerpieces.  I still am amazed that I did this.  I wonder if my sisters will be shocked.  I've never been that much of a crafty person.
The most important part of the conference followed the dinner we served to the aforementioned ladies. I love the ladies with whom I serve.  After seven hours at the church with all the preparations, the event, and the clean-up we were spent and that's a good feeling.
Today I requested a walk and picnic from my family.  We drove up to Shenandoah N.P. and found a trail.  It started out nicely.
But one thing led to another and soon we were rock climbing.  Not exactly what I planned on this nice peaceful Sabbath-day activity.
The kids were brave.  D and I were totally intimidated by the rock scramble, but they didn't miss a single beat.

I love being a mom and Mother's Day is a fun time to think about my good mom who also loved being a mom.  Her example of joyful mothering really rubbed off on me early and I credit her for setting that expectation. I feel like I look more and more like her, even with my Bjarnason nose and blue eyes.  And I like that a lot.

I am ZERO percent surprised at your ability to pull off a crafty centerpiece. I just love that it's eco-friendly. I'm assuming that some lucky women got to take these snazzy, crafty centerpieces home to enjoy them. Much better than something with lace where the meeting would end and you'd look and say, "Great. Cute. Now what do I do with it?"
