Creekside Camping Love

Our good (soon-to-be-Californian) friends took us to their favorite camping spot at the foot of the Blue Ridge not too far away.  They could have kept it a secret.  They could have never led us to this little piece of heaven beside slowly running shallow water which provided all the rock-jumping, rock-throwing, and boat-floating kids could want.  I am so glad they didn't keep this one to themselves. We had so much fun and tried not to acknowledge that this was our final hurrah.
D came straight from work and got to stay for all of twelve hours before leaving early the next morning, but we were just happy to have him there for foil dinners, hot dogs, s'mores, and a late night fireside chat with just the big people. Another awesome family joined us for dinner and the campfire--they are pure fun themselves so we were glad to have them with us.
I love that campfire cooking gives pyromaniac boys the proper exposure to fire and its dangers.  I love how conducive to conversation sitting around a fire is. I love that my kids are just happier having their photos taken when we are outside.  I love that kids turn into fireflies at dusk--everyone has this need to glow with any light source they can find and then they buzz around, in, and through the trees highly visible to their parents. And I love it when hikes are beautiful enough that we can turn around at any point and feel satisfied with our effort and time in the woods.
A huge thanks to the C family for their friendship and love and goodness and humor.  When we meet up for an adventure again, it will be a whole country away, but we look forward to it.
