Regatta in the Rough

J participated in his first Cub Scout Regatta for last night's pack meeting.  J had sculpted his twelve-inch length of two-by-four only slightly, adding upturned tea lights with nails as turreted guns and a few Citiblocks to keep the required two passengers from being bumped out. He was going for the look of a WWII battleship, but he named it "Old Ironsides".

Here in C-ville the Cubs in our pack run their homemade boats right down the stream on someone's property, the boys running alongside as the boats make their way downstream. This event is one hundred percent BOY.  At 9:30 p.m. while eating pretzels at the kitchen table we reviewed the race.

J: "Well, I did great until it got to the eddies and then that's when I got stuck. . . The best boats were the smalls boats. . .In the second race we had to drop our boats right off the bridge at the start. . . Next year I'm going to paint mine a brighter color, but this year lots of people liked my design."

Love the collection of aprons on the wall, too.
