Contentment and That Full Feeling
We went on a walk in the woods near our house yesterday. It was perfect tramping weather and the woods were quiet as we both walked and ran curving paths. It's the perfect Thanksgiving tradition for us. The woods offer the contentment with which I want my kids to be acquainted, the sense of fullness that one feels when all our senses are being used in wild places. Several times J stopped to point out something really beautiful (ex. the powerful contrast of one color against another or the graceful sweep of leaning trees against the sky)--he felt full and content and when it was time we headed home to make final dinner preparations.
Two hours later our house was full of people (twenty!) and we were filled again with good food, conversation, and friendship. I think that's what Thanksgiving is all about for me, that is, the realization that with our basic needs met and good friends and the help of the God we pray to we have what we need no matter what. Our life is full and we are content, it's true.
Thanksgiving 2012 was a great day by every standard and I'm so grateful for it.
(Note to self: if you want an amazing Thanksgiving dinner, invite lots of good cooks to bring part of the meal!)

I love that feeling. I get it often when I'm outside. I think Turlock offered beautiful chances to feel that out in the country, and Utah with the mountains. Now the East with its unique take on beauty...
So glad you had a happy Thanksgiving ~ Beautiful days
