Five is Big: A Birthday in Review

Overarching theme today: five is big. Really big. I don't even want to start listing the reasons because it would be a big list and make my kids seem big. I am so excited for their life in this big world, but, really, couldn't they be little just a little bit longer?
New tradition that was a big hit: the photo garland. Or a gallery would be awesome, too. I put it up at the last minute. The kids love seeing their photos and I smile remembering the blessing it is to watch them grow.
Early start tradition: a box cereal breakfast (a treat!) and a big pile of presents before 7:30 a.m.
Party time: a preschool pirate party with treasure hunt, letter craft, lots of clever stories, and a cupcake-frosting session.
Best birthday afternoon ever: the twins played with their toys all day long. They couldn't have been happier. A piƱata, a surprise present from friends, led to a very prosocial spontaneous neighborhood party. D came home from work so that they could redeem gift cards at Toys'R'Us.
The big finish: we invited friends over for chocolate cake, ice cream of their choice("the expensive cherry five dollar kind, Mom, in the black carton"), and an FHE lesson with a fly swatter activity.
