It didn't take too long to figure out what was in season. The greens looked especially vibrant today. Though it was a hard choice, we eventually forced ourselves to choose, and we brought home the greenest, most tender head of romaine lettuce and ate it all for lunch.
Charlottesville's farmers' market is packed with kind, creative, hard-working vendors. Sometime soon I'll post a good photo essay of all there is to see there. Today, with the exception of choosing some greens and splurging on Pantheon Popsicles, we passed most of the produce and plant vendors and enjoyed all the music stops.
This self-taught duo was playing "Lark in the Morning." I smiled as the kids moved closer as the fiddler picked up the tempo. J "dropped a dollar in"--my generous boy never fails to ask if he can do that for buskers.
Had it not been for our sticky popsicle hands we would have joined the 11:00 a.m. drum circle on South Street but we tapped our toes and bobbed up and down as we stood in the shade. Now we know--drum circles first, popsicles second.
It's so satisfying when we look forward to a return trip before we even leave.
