Take Me Out

We made it to Davenport Field yesterday evening for the UVA-JMU game. Our friends the Kasiks were there sporting their loyalties on their t-shirts and humoring our chatter and wiggles.

D joined us for just under and hour between commitments. The kids settled down around him, asked him questions, and made observations. Once he left they resorted to their normal silly routine of entertaining anyone nearby that would laugh. Perhaps enjoying baseball is a learned skill, or perhaps Dan is the only calming influence in their life.
My favorite thing about ballgames is possibly the number of things to look at and listen to:  everything from the lush, thick, green mat of grass on of the field to the graceful curve of the covered stadium seating to the changing statistical display on the scoreboard. And, of course, the game itself is always right there in front of us.
The deceptive sunny weather was quickly chased out by a summer storm that rolled in across the sky at the beginning of the fourth inning, and we made an early exit. Luckily we were there long enough to see J's student teacher (first baseman Jared King) get on base, a grand slam, and a lots of perfectly placed hits.
