Sleeping Shirts

Sometimes when I'm behind on the laundry and pajamas are missing I send the kids to D's drawer to pull out one his t-shirts. A dad's t-shirt doubles as a perfect sentimental nightshirt. When I was their age, I would go to my dad's drawer for pajamas on occasion. My favorite was a royal blue BYU t-shirt with white block lettering and I remember the day I realized that I had grown out of when it had just gotten too short. I remember most how his t-shirts smelled, and they always smelled best straight from his drawer which I now realize was probably lined with cedar. Tonight after they bathed and got ready for bed, a little wave of nostalgia swept over me and I pulled out the camera to snap a shot of my kids in their t-shirt of choice. I wonder when they'll appreciate little duplications of my childhood like this one.

I used to sleep in my grandaddy's t-shirts, too! And their smell... I can still remember it and every time I get a whiff of ceder it takes me back. When we're at my grandparents now I put my boys to bed in those same shirts. I love it!
