US Road Trip 2013
Part Eight
Do you remember the place where you went to church as a child? My first memories of Sunday meetings are in this building, the Orangeburg Chapel in Modesto, California. Coincidentally, it was the chapel where my dad's first church memories were formed, too--he was a child in this very building. I took the opportunity to snap a few photos when I was there on our road trip.
The super tall steeple and the railing around its base.
I always thought it was so cool how the windows and the railing matched the brick pattern.
I always giggled when I saw these signs because my mom would march us right past them with her small children in tow. We always sat on the second row from the front. She said it was the best place for us to pay attention.
The roll-up serving window in the cultural hall.
Accordian doors in the primary room
Stacking chairs at the end of primary
This counter-height serving table
These circular windows and the crepe myrtle trees.
Not photographed, but also important are
the Scout room upstairs
the quiet room in the rear of the chapel
the Bishop's office.
I'll always be grateful that my parents made the weekly sacrifice to endure church with all six children. As a mom I appreciate the difficulty of that task and my respect for their fortitude has grown. They truly trained me early "in the way I should go" and I'm thankful for that.

I love that you took pictures of this building. Can't believe you didn't get one of the room up the stairs (the scout room?) Such good memories in that building.
So fun to read all the posts about your trip, Liz! Glad you're home all safe and sound now!
I loved Primary in the room upstairs! I chipped my front two teeth on the steps of that building. And, my Grandpa Carpenter helped to build it. So, this building has such sentimental value in our family, too!
