I didn't take a photo of the spread on Thanksgiving, but because we had made it cooperatively the amount of food was unforgettable. I think we ate about half of it for our Thanksgiving feast, and then it took another full day to finish the rest. It was great not to feel the pressure of hosting alone.
We went to Manteo on Friday to enjoy one of North Carolina's aquariums. We loved the sea turtle clinic, the mock triage clinic, the shark tank, and the fossil dig along with all of the other turtles and fish and amphibians living there.
I love my team, and I also love joining forces with other families so that my kids can see what other good families do together. I don't mind melding together for a few days and allowing my kids to adopted other siblings and to be parented by other adults. I think I'm wired for more of an extended family way of life.
It's also a relief to share the load with other adults. I love these good women. They are sisters to me while I am so far away from my California sisters. I learn so much from their patience and good humor.
Back at the house that night we enjoyed games in the sunroom, lots of football on the giant tv, more good food, and more hanging out.
On Saturday we spent a little more time in Nags Head first on the warped wooden pier and then on the beach. We left too soon as always, leaving us wanting more.
The Outer Banks is too far away, but I'm grateful we could see it even in the cold.
