Apple Pie on the Fourth

On the Fourth of July I made an apple pie. I always forget how long this takes me, but I'd love to this to be my Fourth of July tradition every year. We met up with our friends the Evans, the Buers, and the Harrises to eat a delicious spread of barbecue food, whack a piñata and have a patriotic program.
J wrote an original skit about baseball with parts for all of us to play. We enjoyed the other musical numbers performed the families there: Troy told his American flag shorts story, Rich recited "O Captain, My Captain" and I'm sure I'm forgetting the rest.

The fireworks show with flaming and sparking things imported from West Virginia, but we didn't need to call the fire department. No trees were harmed in the display. Being with friends is great, good holiday food is awesome, but I love the thing I loved best this year was the look of wonder on my kids faces when they had sparklers in their hands. It seemed to be the perfect sensory experience to end the day.
