Our final stop was the Open House for the Indianapolis Temple. This was my kids' second time touring a temple before its dedication. We walked the hallways, heard descriptions of the uses of the rooms, and enjoyed the quiet of the spaces. After seeing the stunning interior along with the general public, we took some time to admire it from the front.
A said her favorite part was the Angel Moroni on the tallest spire. It is a symbol of the continuing revelation that guides us as we enter its doors, the charge we feel to declare truths to others, and it is representative of how the restored Gospel was proclaimed by representatives of the Lord, just as in times of old.
E loved these windows. One recurring motif in this temple is the set of concentric circles with a cross through the middle, representing that Indianapolis is the "crossroad city of America".
J liked the benches. I feel a sense of rest when I am at the temple and a desire to contemplate the things I have heard and felt.
It shouldn't go without saying that this is the best temple fountain I think I've ever seen. The kids couldn't keep their hands out of it, and somehow that seemed acceptable.
By noon we were headed east, and our destination was home. We were very motivated to get back to Dan.
We drove through Ohio and West Virginia without looking back, and yet I had so much to think about having had three and a half weeks of new experiences.
