I spent much of Friday with my friend JJ. What an amazing woman. I'm really inspired by her grace and goodness. We were girls together, but this weekend our giggling was replaced by happy reflecting and conversations about mothering and other grown-up topics. She and I and drove into the District to see some the monuments in the late evening. We were surprised by the crowds of people, and I was equally surprised by how reverent I felt to be there. It was quiet inside both places in spite of the crowds, and I enjoyed reading the inscriptions in the marble walls--what amazing vision these men had. I highly recommend a night visit to the monuments if you're ever in the area. They are simply luminous.
The Jefferson Memorial

The Lincoln Memorial
On Saturday morning I went here:
Wow. The DC Temple is exquisite, inside and out. What a treat. It is so tricky to schedule temple service as young parents, so I felt so blessed to be able to work this into my trip.I spent Saturday afternoon with my friend "Nilla." Love that girl. She is ALL girl herself, so I'm so happy she has new baby girl to dress in pink. I love her patient parenting habits and her perfect love for an imperfect friend such as myself. I finally met her husband, bonded with her brilliant 5 year-old son, and snuggled with her new little bundle of love. Someday we'll meet again.

What a brilliant idea! I'm going to have to implement "professional development days" when Dan comes home! And next time you come to DC, let me know. That's where we live :) I'd love to see you.
I'm glad you got to two of my favorite spots, too - The Lincoln Memorial (at night) is where Dan proposed, and the Temple is where we were married!
Ooooo...I like that...Professional Development...
Great idea Liz! So glad you were able to get away for a bit of peace (outer and inner...) I LOVE DC, especially those two monuments. Those men were definitely inspired. It makes me think of a long overdue bus and the national anthem :)
DC is indeed a beautiful place!
I am glad you were able to go and take a break to refill your cup. We all need it!
Congrats on the professional development days - a must for anyone regardless of their profession, but particularly for those in high-impact, unrelenting careers such as the one many of us share :-)
For selfish reasons, I am so glad you made the trip!
"professional development days" ... I think I need me some of those ... maybe when my youngest is done nursing :) !!
I am glad you were able to enjoy such a pleasant get away with your dear friends!
How do I get professional development days? Let me know how you negotiated that into your contract so I can do the same! But, one comment really bothered me. The part where you refer to yourself as imperfect. If you are imperfect my friend, I have miles and miles to go. I look up to you so much!
I love that temple too. I got to go to Washington D.C a few years ago and it was really fun.
Good for you Liz.
I am still chuckling at the "imperfect" comment you made about yourself . . .
I think you are something else!
I love your descriptions and your pictures! It's great to see you from so many miles away:)
