Two August Goals

(Confessional Preface: I'm an unconventional goal setter. My best personal goals never emerge when the world is setting New Years Resolutions. April and October happen to be when my favorite personal targets are defined. And sometimes when I'm nearing the end of something wonderful, like this pre-kindergarten season J is about to finish, I decide to make one final push.)

J's Goal: Learn to swim as measured by his ability to jump in the pool and swim back to the side all by himself. He announced this goal to his dad on the way home from church a few Sundays ago--we're just trying to get him to the pool frequently enough. Pictures of this to come.

L's Goal: Read 100 picture books with my kids. There was a time when I probably read 100 picture books in a week to J, but our two toddlers are needy enough that reading four books a day is a major accomplishment. They do their fair share of this kind of stuff while we try to focus on the book in our laps:
I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that we're getting better at ignoring them.

Isn't it the sad truth? About reading less the more kids you have? Ty was the most deprived in this way. I have thought about it from time to time...oh well. He reads on his own now, so all is not lost. Such cute photos. Goals are always good...even if they become redefined by necessity!

perhaps "ignore" is too harsh of a word.
love the last pic of J. something about those eyes.

I love the first photo of one of your little ones holding a teddy bear. I think I take after my dad's taste for abstract photos, where maybe part of the face or the main "thing" is missing. Helps to focus on other parts...like the little feet in this photo and the chubby hand holding the bear. Love the overalls. Can I wear them?!
