D's method for S'more cookin'--preheating the chocolate is key. Aside from the chocolate factor, there's something about this photo I like.
These millipedes (with red legs) were everywhere.
Me and my girl. I hadn't washed my hair in days so on Saturday morning I donned the do-rag--I've had this very same bandana since wearing at girls camp when I was twelve. My children laughed at me immediately and J called me a pirate! Clearly I need to have a little more variation to my hair-styling, I guess.
And one more photo that illustrates the finality of my camping musings. Putting out the a fire with water is the perfect camping chore for a six-year old.
Not Photographed:
Fish--the ones we never caught.
A rainy, muddy Thursday evening that didn't get us down.
D's ingenious tarp shelter to make a campfire program possible.
Our friends' great orchestra song they taught us.
Tired parents after a rough Thursday night of restless sleep.
The black bear that stole our friends' Nesquik mix.
Our three-man tent that fit us all quite nicely (by Night 2).
All the food I burned. (Note to self: simple is better.)
J mourning our return home to our "boring house".

I love your "faster-than-a-speeding-bullet" toddler too ;) It made me chuckle.
What fun to spend time in such a beautiful place with family and friends. I recall fondly camping trips we took with your family when we were younger. We haven't been camping in a VERY long time. And while life events will probably keep us from doing it in the near future, your photos made me long for the experience.
All of the photos are so sweet. I love the campfire, too. And, the toe-dipping in the water was pretty dang cute. I love your layout, Liz.
You are so talented at catching a beautiful moment almost by chance--and then putting just the right words with it. I love it. Your kiddos are stealing my heart for sure.
We did some of that same s'mores prep when we went camping too, and I think it works quite nicely!
Enjoy your last few days of summer. Miss you!
