Mother's Instinct

My A is a born nurturer.  When E is upset because he's had an accident she lowers her voice and sweetly repeats "it's OK."  She regularly wants to tuck  him into bed.  She is drawn to infants and chose to have a doll before I even gave her the option.  As she changed her doll's outfit this morning she repeated over and over "I yuv, yuv, yuv you."
Today as I was folding laundry with my back to her, I realized that she had been quietly floating behind me for several minutes.  I glanced back to see her doing the mama-rock, shifting her weight from side to side while shushing the doll, a blue-eyed, bald-headed Cabbage Patch Kid.  At two she already has mastered that very rock that I used to calm her during her entire first year.
What a treat to see this little person become capable of nurturing others.

Sweet sweet. Their little hearts ARE different. I remember when Anne Marie was tiny...one of her friends "broke her leg." Anne Marie cried and cried when she heard about it...and then asked if she would "grow a new one." Compassion...

children do what they see adults doing. She is repeating the love she has at home.
