Dan and I had the best undergraduate education at BYU, and since leaving I have loved seeing the places where other people spent their college years. The University of Washington, Penn, Princeton, Harvard, Yale, and now SVU, and I am totally sold on "the genius of small." Last week at the Education Conference President Rod Smith addressed us briefly on Saturday morning about the purposes and design of SVU and I was caught--hook, line, and sinker. I went to lunch late on Saturday so that I could get some shots outside.
Dan probably thinks I'm still trying to sell him on the idea of moving to small Buena Vista to get a job at SVU. That we can tell they don't have any economics professors and he thinks that's a shame.
Supercool Main Hall. It has peeling paint and I was having hard time snapping a photo without getting the sprinkler system, too, but I don't care. Still love it.
All of the buildings on campus are really cool and old and imperfect. I couldn't help but notice the grandeur of the older trees.
I started trying to catch my reflection in the photos because I'm vain like that, I guess.
Founded as Southern Seminary (so it wasn't affiliated at all with our church or its members) in 1867, it was rechartered in 1995 as a small liberal arts college for LDS students and those who share their values.
I love this mantlepiece which is too blurry to read--"God rest you all that linger here."
I sneaked upstairs. I'm sure I was allowed to go up, but since there was nobody on the second or third floors and stairs were creaking I felt like I should be stealthy. Additionally this is just outside the university president's office and that added to the feeling that I needed to sneak a shot.
Totally outdated couches in this study room. Don't care. Still love this place.
And then back downstairs. I love all these banisters.
And back into the Ballroom to join my group for lunch.
