An Autumn Conference (Part 1)

It was Conference Weekend, which meant that we stayed inside and tuned into four two-hour sessions of inspired words from Church leaders about the gospel of Jesus Christ and how to live it better. Conference has played such an important role in my life in providing direction and clarity.
Everyone took their turn snuggling with Dan and I, Dan and I took turns shushing, and the kids came up with their own quiet projects to tackle. We had a few sweet treats just for fun. For the third conference straight I reloaded our art supplies with things I had purchased in back-to-school sales, and I cleared off the dining room table placing a ream of paper right in the middle.
E wrote all sorts of notes and crafted all sorts of signs. A brushed my hair and sat still while I painted her nails.  J paid attention to much of it.

It's a blessing to be able to watch Conference in real time in our homes. (I couldn't help by reminisce about getting my Sunday dress on and watching the broadcast at the church via satellite as a girl or when we would watch it on time delay in Portugal one session after another.) We encourage the kids to quiet their bodies so that we can listen and so that hopefully something will touch them. They can use a little practice in stillness once in awhile--I don't require it of them often or for very long.

Wow--a new TV, flat screen and all. Very nice. Looks like our old one is officially retired!
